The unemployment rate by state continued to get worse in December, 2008. In fact every state experienced an increase in the unemployment rate from November 2008 to December 2008. Looking at the map above you can see things are worse in the gray states--10%+ Unemployment (Michigan & Rhode Island). And things are pretty bad in the purple states as well--7 - 9.9% unemployment rate--(Alaska, Oregon, Washington, Nevada, California, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, Missouri, Illinois, Ohio, Indiana, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Maine.)
